  • Sue,

My cousin, Eric Eitner, and I had been taking turns ordering flowers for our uncle's grave. Now, I order flowers through the ABMC for Veterans' Day which is an important date to the Europeans too. That way, Uncle Warren gets remembered more than once a year. For Memorial Day flowers they ask that you send them the money by the 1st of April.  I have been to the services at St Avold (Lorraine) many times while stationed in Europe over three assignments but have not been since 1991.  You can coordinate the flowers through the ABMC home office address below but email is better (info@abmc.gov ). If you don't have the grave site information or even the cemetary names, they will look that up for you using just the individual's name, rank, and service number is known..  They have always been very helpful. They even "chalk" the headstones for better pictures of the inscription. Now-a-days, the floral order form is online (http://www.abmc.gov/services/floral_order_form.pdf) as is the pricelist.  In the old days, I would just sent them $50 to get the best they could given the exchange rate and market costs. I think it is nice the remember our relatives that gave the final measure for our liberty. The locals still remember when the Americans freed St Avold from the Nazi occupation, though very few are still alive. When last I attended services there, I went in dress uniform and wasn't allowed to pay for anything in the restaurant. They were very gracious and thanked ME for my uncle's sacrifice. I accepted on my mother's behalf.

  • This is beautiful.  Did you/your family make the arrangements for this placement? Was it relatively easy to take care of? Do you know/remember how early one needs to start the process?  I have looked at the ABMC website a few times before and now more than ever am convinced that our association should consider something at each European cemetary where our SSM KIA's are interred.  Looking forward to hearing from you..

    Sue
