Hello Edward. Welcome to SSMA. My name is Dick Fox. I'm the Treasurer of SSMA, and Sue Moyer's brother. You'll find that Sue will be very helpful if you're doing research. I recognize your photos of "Nine-O-Nine". I have been a traveling volunteer with The Collings Foundation for the last couple years. I flew with them for two weeks this August as they made their way through Pennsylvania (even got a ride in "Betty Jane", their P-51 Mustang)! Did you go up in the B-17? If you get a chance, don't miss the oppurtunity. Again, Welcome Aboard!
Hi Edward, Thanks for posting some pictures on the site. I enjoyed your message indicating that you went to Grove City. Did you see that I live in Port Matilda, Pa, which is close to State College. Our NING network is more for sharing information to members, photos, stories, etc.
I'm would guess you have consulted the Coffey book - Decision Over Schweinfurt - in your research. Some of our active members are in Texas, but I'm not sure how close to you. You may want to talk with them. John Noack was my Dad's pilot with the 306/369th. Herman Molen was a togglier. Jay Cobberly lives in Kentucky and should be at our reunion in New Orleans Oct 11-14. George Roberts also of the 306th is still pretty active. He lives in Mississippi, but I don't think he will be at the reunion. If you would be interested in contacting any of these men please let me know and I can provide you with additional information. Please have a look at our newsletter. It has information of our activities in New Orleans. Again, not knowing how close you are to there, even if only for a day, please consider joining us.
Do you ever get back to PA? I work in the PSU library on main campus and we have an 8th AF archive. I find myself in the reading room whenever I have free moments. James Hill who was the first editor of the 8th AF News of the 8th AF historical Society worked here at Penn State. IT was his collection, papers and correspondence that started the archive. Many PA 8th vets have donated materials.
