Remembering Stalag III January 27, 1945

I first met Marilyn Walton last summer (2010) when she came to Penn State for the PA Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society reunion. Later that summer we chatted further at Thunder Over Michigan.

Her father was Lt Col. Thomas Jeffers.  In her book, Rhapsody in Junk - A Daughter's Return to Germany to Finish her Father's Story, she tells of her return to the crashsite of her father's plane (Not the Schweinfurt raid). She was actually able to still find pieces of tire to return to her father. He became a "guest" of Stalag III where many of the men of the Schweinfurt mission were being housed.

A couple of years ago she organized a 52 mile winter re-enactment of the Forced March from there that began January 27, 1945. The videos that you see here are of that walk.  If you look closely you will see a SSMA member among the group.  He's everywhere.....
